An Introduction to Philosophy

In the first part of this course we will examine several traditional problems in philosophy. These include: the mind/body problem, the definition of a 'good life', the problem of free-will vs. determinism and other ethical problems. Every week we will read and discuss in English philosophical texts that treat these topics. Pupils will be expected to give short presentations on either thinkers or topics of their choice. They will also be expected to learn how to write argumentative essays. In the second part of the course the pupils will be able to choose the further topics to be examined.
