Non-white English literature

Most English literature is set in Great Britain or America and the protagonists are white Anglo-Saxons. In this course, we will change focus and concentrate on works (novels, short stories, poems and folk tales) that were written by non-whites and are set in places like Africa, India or the Caribbean. To put the stories in context, we are going to examine the history and culture of some countries (e.g. India, Nigeria) a little. Time permitting, we’re also going to watch a film and listen to some music. All texts we are going to use were published after 1950.
