The Black Experience in America
This course will examine the political, social and cultural history of African Americans in the United States. We will read a wide variety of texts, e.g. slave diaries, political documents, folk tales, newspaper articles, poetry and prose. We will watch documentaries of the civil rights movement and films which portray the lives of contemporary African Americans. Black contributions to music and the English language will also be examined. Students will be required to give presentations
